The lateral sewer line, which is the privately owned section of pipe from the home to the publicly owned main sewer line or septic tank, is often overlooked. However, it's crucial to remember that the property owner is typically responsible for maintaining and repairing this section. I've attached a picture showing an offset pipe joint found during one of my sewer scope inspections. This issue, if left undetected, can lead to serious problems, such as leaking sewage into the yard and backing up the house drain pipes, resulting in significant and costly repairs.
